Monday Motivation + Create a Monday You Love

I have always been asked a lot, ‘How do you stay motivated?’, in all honesty, I don’t, and I don’t believe there is such a thing as ‘staying’ motivated every minute of every day, week or month, I do though believe in creating motivation. One of my favourite quotes when it comes to motivation, ‘There is nothing in nature that blooms all year long, so don’t expect yourself to do so either.‘ – Unknown. This quote for me says it all.

Therefore this is not about ‘staying’ motivated, but about motivating yourself to live your best possible day, every day. I say ‘your best’ because there are so many factors that can change how we feel each day, there are so many things that can happen throughout our journeys, which is why I believe that motivation can look different for everyone, and is always changing throughout our lives depending on our values and situations.

With Spring soon on the horizon, I thought this was the perfect time to write an inspo post for anyone out there getting to this last quarter of the year and thinking, boy, there is so much more I want to do, so let’s talk Monday Motivation. Now your Monday may not be a Monday depending on your work life, home life etc. but these tips and tricks can be applied to any given day..

Do as much as you can on the last day of the working week rather than waiting until the start of the new one

I say this because in the past I did the opposite, I use to have the attitude that Friday, the last day of my working week, should be relaxing, I shouldn’t treat it like a Monday, it should be the easiest, right? Wrong. If we stop continually leaving everything until the next week, telling ourselves that for some reason we deserve to not be so busy and pushing whatever still needs to be done until the next week, guess what.. trust me when I say that Monday will soon become your favourite day of the week when you get to start it with less on your plate. The other reason I now do this is because I believe that weekends (or our days off), should be about making time for what we love and relaxation, we should feel we are able to switch off until the new week, and by staying focused on Friday’s, I’ve allowed myself to do this. I totally understand though that some weeks this is impossible when you get work coming your way right at the end of the day, emails to reply to, and the phone just won’t stop ringing, but that’s ok, that’s part of life. Not every week will be like this though, stay focused.

Prepare, prepare, prepare

On weekends we can tend to relax a little too much though, and procrastinate (I’ll put my hand up for both of these), but there comes a time when we need to set aside a little time to actually prepare for the week ahead if we are going to make it great. This can be in the form of checking our calendars or diaries to ensure we are aware of what we have on during the week ahead (mental preparation), meal prepping (I will be doing dedicated how to posts about this in the future) or even something so simple as packing our bag and/or laying out our clothes for the next day to save time and help ourselves start our mornings with ease. We mustn’t think of preparation as taking time away from ourselves and the things we’d ‘rather be doing’, we must try and think of it as preparing to succeed, as a way of motivating ourselves to stick to our plans, look after ourselves, and give ourselves the breathing room of a morning to actually enjoy our mornings, we must stay prepared.

Change your attitude towards a new week

When people say that Friday is their favourite day of the week, my first thought or response is that mine is Monday. I can’t even remember anymore why I use to not like this day so much. It seems to have such a negative vibe around it for some reason, especially on social media, but I say let’s start a movement to change this notion behind it, we all have the power to change this and learn to love it. A new week should be exciting, every new day we get to wake up and live out our lives is an absolute gift, we owe it to ourselves to treat it like it is. Monday is a fresh start, a new path and full of incredible opportunity to do what you do even better or change what you do for the better. If this day really isn’t working for you, and by the end of the week you are wishing you’d achieved more, then something has to change. There is no reason that you can’t achieve more, you need to believe that you can. For instance you could try and start your day with a motivating mantra, meditation, gratitude journaling, a nourishing breakfast, exercise, a new book or an inspiring podcast instead of using your energy in a negative way towards yourself and your life. I truly believe that motivation isn’t something that just happens, it doesn’t just pop into our lives, we have to create it, we have to stay inspired.

All my love,

Q+A with Madison Burton (aka @maddieburtonfitness)

Maddie (as some know her personally and on Instagram) is a serious burst of motivation, from an avid health and fitness lover, self love advocate and all round raw, real and incredibly relatable beautiful soul. I first met Maddie in person when she travelled a fair distance in the early hours of the morning to attend a small event I was hosting in Brisbane, a potluck picnic with a few other beautiful souls. I was beyond grateful to not only get to meet her in person, but to have her loving support towards my journey, support she has given me ever since. Maddie is also a total #GirlBoss, she is a qualified dance teacher, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, lifestyle YouTuber and online coach of her own sparkling new business Maddie Burton Fitness. Maddie doesn’t let anything stand in the way of her dreams or her personal goals, she doesn’t just work on herself though, Maddie is always supporting others and being a constant source of inspiration throughout her own journey, during the ups and the downs, which is what I love most about her and why she is one of my biggest motivators to never give up on what sets your heart and soul on fire. A true inspiration inside and out.

Grab a cup of coffee or tea and read on to get inspired and feel a little warm inside..

What is on your bedside table at the moment?

“The Universe has your back” Gabrielle Bernstein (one of my favourite books of all time).

And my Ivy and wood candle (lime and coconut). This is my happy place.

In 3 words describe YOU.

Creative, Loving, Motivated.

When did your journey begin, what was your turning point?

My first year out of home, about ¾ of the way through my Dance course to become a professional dancer, something kind of clicked for me in more ways than one. I wasn’t truly, uncontrollably happy and I didn’t feel like I really knew who I was. I broke up with my long time boyfriend who wasn’t right for me, I stopped binging on ice cream and nutella in the crazy hours of the night and I started exercising. Slowly but surely. I didn’t have any knowledge about anything health or fitness but once I started I was hooked. I spent so much time researching, talking to people, going to events and seminars and just soaked it all in. It has made me so much more confident and motivated as a person and it will only grow from here.

Where do you find inspiration, and how do you turn this into motivation?

I guess from myself, I am a highly self driven person. I don’t need a gym buddy or someone to keep me in check. My inspiration is genuinely myself and the things I can achieve when I set my mind to something. I love that I can motivate myself to get my butt out of bed in the morning to go to the gym, to write in my gratitude journal, to go for a walk or to drink a green smoothie. It wasn’t always easy, but once you know how it feels doing all of those things it is hard to go back!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to start their own journey towards their best self and life, what would it be?

Look deep in yourself and ask yourself WHY? Why are you wanting to start this journey? Make that WHY super clear so that you really understand how important this is to you. Once you are clear on that then you will be able to give it your all!

Favourite quote/mantra you hold close to your heart?

Start each day with a grateful heart.

Simple but god does it make a difference to every single day!

Lastly, what is your WHY? Your focus every day to get up and go again, the thing that makes you jump out of bed in the morning and share your sparkle with The Universe?

Haha I didn’t even read this before I wrote my answer for the question before!

My why is that I never want to just live an average, or mundane kind of life. I crave to inspire and motivate my clients, friends, family and anyone else who comes to me for advice or help. I love helping change peoples lives for the better and to constantly be bettering myself as a person, mentally, physically and spiritually. So wanting all of those things gets me up and going every day to live my best life (oh that and coffee).

Thank you so much Maddie for allowing my readers to have the pleasure of ‘meeting’ your sparkly self. I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to have had you a part of this chapter with me.

Want to get to know Maddie a little more (trust me when I say you do!). Find her on..

Creating Body Positivity through Self Love

It’s flaws me when I think that throughout our lives that out of all the things we are taught when we are at our most vulnerable, when we soak the most in, and when we are ‘finding ourselves’, self love isn’t one of them. Being positive about the person we see in the mirror is hard when the world is continuously shoving in our faces over-edited imagery and manipulative media stories about how we ‘should’ look and feel. The most important person to listen to is you, the person you see in the mirror every day, which is why I believe body positivity starts with self love.

Let’s talk about self love.. Self love is not a destination, it is like life, a journey. I don’t believe we ever get to a place of complete self love, no, I believe that we are all always going to be a work in progress, that the journey of self love is about loving the person that’s in progress, no matter the state of being. We must learn to love what we see, no matter how far away it is from what we want to see, because how can one ever be happy if one is always wanting to see something else in the first place.

To start to love the person you see in the mirror, you have to start to allow yourself to. Allow is a strong word when it comes to self love, it’s something so many of us seem to fight. I found peace within my body when I allowed myself to let go of the negativity about how I felt about myself and allowed the positive vibes to flow in. This was a choice, this took time and a lot of work from within.

When I would look in the mirror I practiced only saying good things. This may sound simple to some, but it wasn’t for me. It did though eventually begin to sink in from the impact it was having on myself and my life after practicing this form of self love and creating mantras for myself to repeat daily. We weren’t all made different only to look like someone else, you were born unique, you are beautiful and always have been no matter the stage of your journey.

The person in the mirror is suffering if every time you look at them you don’t like what you see. Why don’t they deserve to be loved today, not just when you’ve achieved your goals. Love is fuel, love is motivating, love is inspiring. Treat your body with the love it deserves and everything starts to change.

When I started to practice self love about my body; the pressure started to ease, I started to find peace and contentment when I allowed myself to feel beautiful no matter what I saw. I also took some physical actions towards working on my own body positivity as well. I got rid of any clothes that didn’t fit properly and kept what made me feel good and comfortable, I unfollowed accounts on social media that made me feel less than about my body and my choices, I consciously say thank you when someone gives me a compliment instead of making an excuse or putting myself down.

I understand that everyone’s journey is different and it’s easier said than done sometimes I know, trust me I know, for me though working on how I feel about my body and myself through self love first has been life changing. It has made room for so much good to come into my life, it has changed my outlook on my choices and helped me to let go of a lot of guilt weighing me down about the person I thought I should be and what I thought I should be doing when I looked in the mirror.

Food for thought.. So you have goals for the future, but who’s to say you aren’t already the best version of you? Allow yourself to love yourself now, I promise it will be worth it.

All my love,

The Change Box + Unboxing July

I had been meaning to gift myself one of these boxes for a while after consciously following The Change Box, what they offer and the game changing business that they are over on Instagram at @thechangebox. ‘Every box has plant-based luxurious, natural beauty products, delicious snacks and lovely homewares that focus on doing good in the world.’ – The Change Box.  It’s the ‘doing good’ that really got me, and after having a chat with them on Instagram I went for it, and am now deeply in love with my monthly subscription.

I’ve had subscriptions to everything under the sun in the past, from magazines, beauty products and food, but nothing quite like this. The Change Box encompasses everything that I believe in and stand for whilst actually providing me with products that I will love, use and eat, and actually buy again. I’m sure if you are like me and have had ‘subscriptions’ in the past to numerous things, you may have had what you’ve received start to pile up on your coffee table, in your bathroom cupboard or even kitchen cupboard. Before you know it you’ve received another delivery. The Change Box is not like this, I trialed the box in June so July is actually my second box, and quite frankly it makes me so happy inside and out.

Let the unboxing begin..

In the name of keeping it raw and real, this is the ‘before I placed everything beautifully for the unboxed photo’ photo.

And this of course is the beautifully placed unboxed photo. I actually really enjoy taking everything out and having a go at putting it back in from a creative point of view. Opening this box though put the biggest smile on my face, it was filled with so many beautiful products, not to mention the full sized ones too which secretly makes me really happy (especially when I love them!).

Sleep Balm 28g by The Physic Garden

I tried this sleep balm the night I opened my box and I am already so in love with the product and the brand itself. This balm is 100% natural, vegan and handmade in Australia. I could feel a sensation as soon as I applied it to my skin and the feeling of calm come over me as I drifted off to sleep. I have personally struggled with sleep for a while so anything that helps me fall asleep gets a big yes as part of my pre sleep rhythm.

Sea Salt Caramel Coconut Chips 120g by Knowrish Well

I’m lost for words when it comes to these coconut chips, they are up there as one of the most amazing tasting sweet snacks I’ve ever had (big call I know). These have absolutely won my heart and I’m trying my very best so savour them slowly.

Relax tea 50g by The Social Cup

This is my kind of wind down tea. It’s fresh, floral (literally is full of tiny flowers!) and most definitely relaxing. So incredibly beautiful, I can see myself ending my day with this tea often.

Lemon Myrtle superfood powder (sample size) by Kakadu Plum Co

I haven’t tried this product yet, but when I do I will update this post with how I found it. I am planning to use it in my next kitchen creation.

I think of you. You think of Me. card by Time and Space Co

I absolutely love this game changing concept of receiving and giving from a stranger to a stranger (or in other words someone you don’t know personally). Spreading the magic of kindness is something I try to practice daily. I am yet to leave my card somewhere, but when I do I will update this blog post with the photo of where I’ve left it. I can’t wait to brighten someone’s day.

Cream Blush (there were two colours sent out and I received ‘Darling Clementine’) by Hanami

I haven’t tried this product yet, but when I do I will update this post with how I found it. I am planning to use it when I next do my makeup as I actually hardly wear it anymore and haven’t now for a few months other than the odd special occasion or when I need a little bit of sparkle, but I’m still very excited to try this out.

All of these products make change in this world, from being a ethical, sustainable company to donating some of their profits to life changing causes. We 100% vote with our dollar. What better feeling than doing good with the money we are so lucky to earn in the first place. Be a game changer and check out The Change Box.
