Hollie is one of those people you meet who is an absolute burst of positive energy. She is a total pocket rocket when it comes to life, small but fierce you could say. We met a few years ago now and it was a total soul connection after vibing over our shared veggie based lifestyle (and our love for coffee!).

Hollie is a qualified Health + Nutrition Coach, blogger, recipe developer, avid fitness lover and a game changer. With the launch of her very own online health and nutrition coaching business and cookbooks you could say she is one #girlboss that is absolutely making it happen.

From waking up before the sun to train, making her own signature versions of healthy meals and treats and truly living her best life, Hollie is definitely one to keep on your radar and a must follow for daily inspiration.

What is on your bedside table at the moment?

At the moment I have 3 books on my bedside. The first is my Winter Wellness Cookbook because I have tabs all over it with ideas of how to make my next book even better. The second is the Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin because I love learning about psychology. Last but certainly not least is Finding Ultra by one of my favourite people Rich Roll.

Determined, Happy, Passionate.

When did your journey begin, what was your turning point?

I suppose my real journey into what I believe is a much healthier and happier me can be broken down in two parts; finding a way of eating that is good for my health, the health of the planet and honours the lives of animals. I have been a whole food plant based eater now for two years which is basically just eating a vegan diet free of highly processed foods. My rule for foods that have been processed is.. was anything good taken away or anything bad added? The best example is raw cacao powder, it is processed to remove the saturated fat but none of the nutrients are removed in that process.

I have never felt better both physically and emotionally about where my food comes from and how much energy I have for life. I was inspired after watching the documentary Forks Over Knives and continued reading and studying ever since. Now I am a Health & Nutrition Coach, I have written 2 of my own cookbooks and share my journey on my website www.poweredbyvegies.com.au and my Instagram page @powered_by_vegies. They are a combination of my passion for getting people to love eating more vegies and being more physically active.

The second part of my journey was more of a mental transformation. I used to worry about how many calories where in each bite of food and how that might make me “get fat”. You probably think I’m going to say I started yoga or meditation.. nope not me. I was talked into training and competing in Powerlifting, this year I even got to compete at Nationals. I absolutely love the thrill of competing in squat, bench and deadlift. I get excited about training 5 days a week for 2 hour sessions, doing things I could never have dreamt possible. I now see my body as being so capable and it doesn’t matter how toned my arms are or if my thighs can still squeeze into tiny jeans. I want a body that can kick ass on the platform and deadlift almost 3 times my body weight.

I see these two parts of my life working in perfect synergy. I eat wholefoods to fuel my body to perform and recover at its best. I eat my vegies to have the energy to wake before 5am and bounce off to the gym. I respect my body to look after it and challenge it to get stronger and feel better.

Where do you find inspiration, and how do you turn this into motivation?

I find inspiration from so many people..
My trainer Courtney, an amazingly tough mother of 4 boys, who still makes time for her health and being a bad ass powerlifter.
My coach Simon, who gives all his clients so much care, attention, and sometimes a kick up the ass to be there best.
Rich Roll, an inspiring athlete and advocate for plant based nutrition and holistic health.
Dr Michael Greger, who runs a not for profit website that puts together research based videos on nutrition to cut out all the hype and media promotion.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to start their own journey towards their best self and life, what would it be?

Take one step at a time.. make a plan and do it for you!

Lastly, what is your WHY? Your focus every day to get up and go again, the thing that makes you jump out of bed in the morning and share your sparkle with The Universe?

I want people to be able to enjoy health and vitality so that they can appreciate their lives and find their purpose. I know that food and nutrition is the key to honouring and respecting your body enough to treat it well. My mission is to provide people with the tools, recipes, strategies and information to make simple changes that will improve all aspects of their health.

Q+A with Madison Burton (aka @maddieburtonfitness)

Maddie (as some know her personally and on Instagram) is a serious burst of motivation, from an avid health and fitness lover, self love advocate and all round raw, real and incredibly relatable beautiful soul. I first met Maddie in person when she travelled a fair distance in the early hours of the morning to attend a small event I was hosting in Brisbane, a potluck picnic with a few other beautiful souls. I was beyond grateful to not only get to meet her in person, but to have her loving support towards my journey, support she has given me ever since. Maddie is also a total #GirlBoss, she is a qualified dance teacher, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, lifestyle YouTuber and online coach of her own sparkling new business Maddie Burton Fitness. Maddie doesn’t let anything stand in the way of her dreams or her personal goals, she doesn’t just work on herself though, Maddie is always supporting others and being a constant source of inspiration throughout her own journey, during the ups and the downs, which is what I love most about her and why she is one of my biggest motivators to never give up on what sets your heart and soul on fire. Creative, Loving, Motivated.

When did your journey begin, what was your turning point?

My first year out of home, about ¾ of the way through my Dance course to become a professional dancer, something kind of clicked for me in more ways than one. I wasn’t truly, uncontrollably happy and I didn’t feel like I really knew who I was. I broke up with my long time boyfriend who wasn’t right for me, I stopped binging on ice cream and nutella in the crazy hours of the night and I started exercising. Slowly but surely. I didn’t have any knowledge about anything health or fitness but once I started I was hooked. I spent so much time researching, talking to people, going to events and seminars and just soaked it all in. It has made me so much more confident and motivated as a person and it will only grow from here.

Where do you find inspiration, and how do you turn this into motivation?

I guess from myself, I am a highly self driven person. I don’t need a gym buddy or someone to keep me in check. My inspiration is genuinely myself and the things I can achieve when I set my mind to something. I love that I can motivate myself to get my butt out of bed in the morning to go to the gym, to write in my gratitude journal, to go for a walk or to drink a green smoothie. It wasn’t always easy, but once you know how it feels doing all of those things it is hard to go back!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to start their own journey towards their best self and life, what would it be?

Look deep in yourself and ask yourself WHY? Why are you wanting to start this journey? Make that WHY super clear so that you really understand how important this is to you. Once you are clear on that then you will be able to give it your all!

Favourite quote/mantra you hold close to your heart?

Start each day with a grateful heart.

Simple but god does it make a difference to every single day!

Lastly, what is your WHY? Your focus every day to get up and go again, the thing that makes you jump out of bed in the morning and share your sparkle with The Universe?

Haha I didn’t even read this before I wrote my answer for the question before!

My why is that I never want to just live an average, or mundane kind of life. I crave to inspire and motivate my clients, friends, family and anyone else who comes to me for advice or help. I love helping change peoples lives for the better and to constantly be bettering myself as a person, mentally, physically and spiritually. So wanting all of those things gets me up and going every day to live my best life (oh that and coffee).

Q+A with Sarah Herring (aka @sarahalicetiu)

Sarah is one of those souls that lights up a room with her infectious smile and loving vibe, she is a real life dream chaser, making it happen one goal at a time. She has a personal Instagram account which is where our paths met through her journey of similar values (our love for coffee being one of them!) where some of you may already know her from as Sarah Alice TIU (Tone it Up). Sarah is also a marketing coordinator, a soon to be yoga teacher, an entrepreneur – launching her very first creative vision out into the world earlier this year, the (literally) smoothie blend branded clothing line, Blend & Serve. When she’s not putting her Masters in Marketing degree to use in her 9 to 5, she’s whipping up delicious smoothie creations, working out, practicing yoga, packaging up orders for her sparkling new company and working on some more super exciting side projects soon to be released out into the world (I cannot wait to tell you about what Sarah has planned and share it with you!), talk about being a total source of inspiration and motivation to chase your dreams and make your passions a reality.

What is on your bedside table at the moment?

I’ve got a beautiful Massangeana plant, which is also know as a ‘Happy Plant’, I love to have greenery throughout our home. There is a pile of books I’m currently reading: You are a Badass by Jen Sincero, Thrive by Arianna Huffington and The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh. I adore reading and embrace learning as much as I possibly can, and am trying hard to read before I go to sleep and not be on my phone! I’ve also got a beautifully painted bowl that holds my jewels, a photo of me with my love and a singing bowl, which I use for yoga and meditation.

When did your journey begin, what was your turning point?

This is a tough question for me! I am an extremely lucky person who grew up in a loving family, with a brother who is one of my best friends, and parents who only want the best for us and help us to achieve any goals we have, I’m very blessed by this I know. My mum use to make almond milk at home WAY before it became trendy, my dad has always been an avid runner, showing me the importance of moving your body and my brother is now off living his dreams in Canada. We were always told to go after what we want in this life.

I grew up with an incredibly vivid imagination; I could play for hours by myself creating entire worlds in my mind. I read a lot growing up as well and have had from a really young age this feeling that there is something more to this life than just living and working and earning an income.

It was when I began practising yoga in 2012 that I found this connection between my mind, body and soul. I’ve always been active, and adore running and dancing and moving my body, but it was really yoga that gave me this ‘ah ha’ feeling, this understanding that for me, yoga is coming home to myself.

So I had this spark inside, and it was last year that the concept of Blend & Serve came to me. I love healthy living and am obsessed with comfort in fashion. So I created Blend & Serve, Smoothie recipes printed on super soft tees. I am just at the start of this new venture and am so loving the process. Starting a side hustle as I like to call it is scary, but so exhilarating at the same time, and getting to have total control of everything I put out there is the best feeling, I pinch myself every time a beautiful soul chooses to buy one of my tees, it really makes my heart sing.

Where do you find inspiration, and how do you turn this into motivation?

Inspiration for me comes at random times from all kinds of places. My top three are:

Nature; put me in a rainforest, or by the ocean with my feet in the sand and I am inspired to the tenth degree and just want to create and connect and do more with my life!

Like minded souls; there is nothing like catching up with someone who is important to you that you can share your hopes and dreams with, have a coffee and a laugh that just always always makes you leave them feeling inspired – it’s these kinds of people when I find them I keep em!

Yoga; winding down and taking the time to step onto my mat, to slow down and listen to my breath keeps me inspired.

I turn inspiration into motivation through consistently doing the above three things, its really easy to get caught up in the busy, hustle and bustle of life and work and commitments, but taking the time to get my tush into nature, spend time with like minded souls and step onto my mat keeps me motivated to keep striving to live my best life.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to start their own journey towards their best self and life, what would it be?

Hmm, I would say consume as much as you can on the topic, be it health, fitness, positive thinking, self-development, whatever it is your wanting to embrace. Listen to podcasts, read books, reach out to people who inspire you to connect with. It can get overwhelming at times thinking that there is all these things to do and try, so pick one small thing to change in a week and focus on that, try and add in the good and don’t focus on cutting anything out, just keep adding in the goodness and eventually you’ll find it overtakes the other stuff.

Favourite quote/mantra you hold close to your heart?

Oh I have so many; I grew up on sayings and quotes and use to make posters with quotes as a kid; well before Pinterest! Here are just a few!

‘If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.’

‘Everything is ok in the end, if it’s not ok, then it’s not the end.’

‘Work hard in silence and let success be your noise.’

‘I can and I will.’ (this is a running mantra for me).

Lastly, what is your WHY? Your focus every day to get up and go again, the thing that makes you jump out of bed in the morning and share your sparkle with The Universe?

Life just feels better this way! I use to think it was so much effort to live a life full of goodness, to move my body everyday, to take time to roll out my mat, to cook food that fuels me, to read books that teach me. I thought it was easier to sleep in until the very last possible second before I’d be late, to buy takeaway for all my meals, to just lay on the couch every evening.

But really living a life that is full of goodness makes me so happy, it makes me motivated, it makes it all easy, and not only easy but more enjoyable! It allows me to look for the good in every moment, to be grateful everyday and the knowledge that the life I live is designed by myself and that I actually have total control on how I want it to be.

It allows me to put my best version forward so I can be a better friend, fiancé, sister, daughter etc. through learning how to be kind to myself, accept myself and love who I am and who I continue to strive to be, I’m then putting my best self out into the universe.

Some of you may already know Alice from her down to earth, heartwarming and inspirational presence on social media as Alice in Healthy Land. Alice is a nurse, wife, mumma to two beautiful little souls and a fur baby, and so, so much more. When did your journey begin, what was your turning point?

My journey began at birth (ha is that cheeky), no but I truly believe that every life experience is a learning curve, even if it’s a negative one. My turning point for me though was accepting myself and all my flaws. Being proud of my journey and loving myself for who I am. This happened when I became a mumma at 28. I truly appreciated my worth and respected my body. It was truly something special to experience this.

Where do you find inspiration, and how do you turn this into motivation?

Oh I find inspiration in so many things, in my environmental surroundings, in my loved ones, in quotes, I am inspired and empowered by people I have never met. I turn it into motivation by writing it down or creating a vision board. If I can see it, I can believe it.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to start their own journey towards their best self and life, what would it be?

Start now! Whatever it takes, because once you start this journey towards this life you won’t want to stop.
